The Montgomery YMCA Capital City Streaks U10 boys earned the Finalist medal at the Florabama Soccer Showcase, September 18-19th, 2011 in Orange Beach, AL.

The tournament opened on Saturday morning with an early 4-1 win over Perdido Bay.  The second Saturday game was a noon time 14-0 win over Mobile United FC Red.  This win placed them in 1st place in pool play.  After their Saturday games however, they received word that even though they were leading in every category, there was still a tie for first place between Venom because of a 3 goal differential cap in the rules.  Because of this, there was a 7:45 AM tie breaker shoot out to determine who was put in first and who was put in second.  Because we lost the shoot-out, we played the immediate 8 AM semi-final game against the Perdido Bay Boys again.

In the semi-final match the boys got off to a great start and won 2-1 win over Perdido Bay.  The Championship game followed and it was the closest game of the tournament for the boys.  The 3-2 loss to Venom was definitely a tough game and a hard way to lose such an excellent weekend of wins.  The team showed excellent teamwork and vast improvement from their first tournament.  Their line ups fit their strengths and their stamina and team work was better as well.  The defense and goalkeeping held strong when it needed to and allowed the offense to work together more easily.

This is the second tournament finalist award for this young team, the first of this season.  We are so very proud of our U10 boys and our wonderful coaches; Eli McCrory and Henrique Rizzo.  We are looking forward to a great season and strong finishes during the remainder of our tournaments this season.

Players:  Jamie Dunning, Austin Taylor, Femi Adediji, Alec Chandler, Andrew Lin, Austin Lin, Michael Russo, Cobi Keel, Thomas Rizzo, and Kameron Devanier.

Coaches:  Eli McCrory and Henrique Rizzo

The U12 Girls Blue team represented the Capital City Streaks at the prestigious Atlanta Cup tournament September 2 -5. An exciting 3-1 win against MidSouth Futbol Club 2000 Girls from Memphis got the tournament off to a good start. Our 2000 Girls Blue team followed up with a 6-2 win Saturday afternoon against the Roswell Santos 00 Red from Roswell, Georgia, to cap off a successful day.

Sunday’s challenge, also from the Atlanta area, was Concorde Fire Central White. The game ended in a 2-2 tie, but because  of their dominance in the early rounds CCS qualified as the first place finisher in their bracket giving them a spot in the Semi-Final round on Sunday afternoon where they again met and this time defeated the Concorde Fire White with a tight 1-0 final score.

Despite the rainy weather, the team was cheerful and upbeat as they entered the championship game Monday against the Augusta Arsenal Gunners 00 from Augusta, Georgia. Their spirit could not be dampened. Regulation play ended with no score. The AASC Gunners came out on top with a goal scored in the last five seconds of the second half of overtime play.

Scoring the weekend goals for CCS were Maylon Davis, Haley Jolly, Tara Katz, Mary Martin Mooneyham, and Hayden Tipton.  Goalkeepers throughout the weekend were Mallory Houlditch, Bea Richardson, Hayden Tipton, and Mary Stuart Tipton.

During the awards presentation, Coach Jodie Smith told the team …”you go as a team to tournaments to challenge yourselves against good competition.  And I think we accomplished quite a lot over the weekend.  Be disappointed, but be proud of how well you did this weekend, because I am very proud of you all”.  The girls demonstrated teamwork, adaptability, and a determined spirit showing that they never give up.

Congratulations to the CCS00G Blue, Finalist in the Atlanta Cup!

The team showed excellent teamwork throughout the tournament and there was plenty of player rotation throughout the tournament.  Almost every player was had an opportunity to score.  Their defense and goalkeeping held strong when it needed to and allowed the offense to run down the field and score.
